The myth.

“For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain… He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught…”

God’s steward. Not a brand owner. Arrogance, greed for gain, and failure to hold firm doctrine are listed disqualifiers — not personality quirks.

“Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.”

Platform size increases judgment, not immunity. Millions of views do not lower the bar; they raise the stakes.

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits…”

Fruit is character and effect on sheep — not crowd size, healing videos, or conversion stories. Rotten fruit is enough.

“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you… And in their greed they will exploit you with false words.”

Exploitation with false words and greed is a New Testament category — not a modern invention of “critical spirits.”

“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”

Exposure is a Christian duty when darkness hides in ministry. Silence protects predators, not the Gospel.

“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock… Fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.”

Wolves often rise from inside. Drawing disciples after themselves — personality cult — is a mark, not a misunderstanding.

“Contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed… who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality…”

Contending is love for the Church. Grace is never a license for performative spirituality that hides unrepentant sin.

“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed… For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God?”

Another gospel — whether prosperity, perfectionism, or power-for-show — is not rescued by sincerity or tears on a stage.

“Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord… I did not send the prophets, yet they ran.”

Self-generated “words” that prop up a brand or extract compliance are vain hope, not revelation.

“I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.”

Avoidance is a biblical command, not bitterness. Smooth talk + naive hearts is exactly the celebrity-evangelist danger.

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us… If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

Multi-year claims of never lying, never lusting, never guilt — if false — make God a liar and deceive the flock.

“For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.”

Signs do not authenticate. Leg-length videos, if anything, prove only that spectacle persuades — which Jesus already warned about.
